Lithology and Thickness
The Meizilin Formation is an epi-metamorphic clastic and carbonate sequence. The formation is roughly divided into three parts; Lower part consists of arkose-sandstone sandstone, siltstone, and sandy mudstone; Middle part consists of dark grey, thin to thick-bedded biotite-diopside quartzic hornstone ("hornstone" = rich in chert nodules?), biotite quartzic hornstone, and diopside quartzic hornstone; Upper part consists of limestone, muddy limestone, sandy limestone, diopside-tremolite marble, wollastonite marble. In the type section, the formation is incomplete as its basal part and base and upper part and top are unknown. The exposed portion is over 415.2 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Because no base of the formation is exposed, the lower contact of the formation remains unknown. Possibly underlain by Ediacaran strata
